For a successful spin-on oil filter replacement:

• Always ensure the old rubber gasket is removed from the engine mounting block. If the old gasket sticks and you install the new filter over it ("double gasketing"), a massive oil leak will occur immediately upon startup.
• Crucial: Dip your finger in clean engine oil and apply a light film around the new rubber gasket before spinning the filter on. This ensures a proper seal and prevents the gasket from binding.
• Install the filter by hand until the gasket makes contact, then tighten it an additional 3/4 to 1 full turn. Do not overtighten with a wrench.
