PM Sensor (Particulate Matter Sensor) also called a soot sensor is a key emissions‑control component used mainly in modern diesel engines. Its job is to directly measure the amount of soot leaving the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and ensure the aftertreatment system is working correctly.

The PM Sensor Monitors DPF efficiency by measuring soot concentration in the exhaust stream.

 Provides real time data so the engine control unit (ECU) can adjust regeneration cycles and maintain compliance with emissions limits.

 Detects DPF failures or clogging more accurately than older differential pressure only systems.

 Helps reduce particulate emissions by up to 99% when paired with a properly functioning DPF.

The symptoms of the damaged PM sensor include:

• DPF regeneration stops or becomes too frequent ,
• Check Engine Light with PM sensor or DPF efficiency codes ,
• High soot load readings despite recent regeneration ,
• Poor engine performance or increased fuel consumption .
