Before replacing the pressure control valve (SCV):
- Always strictly depressurize the common rail system before performing any work to avoid severe injury from high-pressure fuel spray .
- Absolute cleanliness is mandatory. Even microscopic dirt particles entering the high-pressure pump during valve installation can cause catastrophic failure to the pump and injectors .
- On many DENSO systems, after installing a new SCV, a pump relearn procedure (small quantity learning) MUST be performed using a compatible diagnostic scan tool to calibrate the ECU to the new valve .
