Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) Sensor is a vital component in modern diesel emissions systems. Installed downstream (after the catalytic converter), its primary function is to monitor exhaust temperatures to ensure the efficient operation of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) . By constantly relaying data to the Engine Control Unit (ECU), it triggers and manages the DPF regeneration process, burning off accumulated soot. Before replacing the exhaust gas temperature sensor:

Ensure the exhaust system is completely cold to avoid severe burns and to reduce the risk of stripping the M14 threads in the exhaust pipe during removal .
Spray the old sensor's threads with penetrating oil and let it soak before attempting to unscrew it, as sensors located after the catalytic converter often seize due to heat cycling .
Route the extra-long 1300 mm cable carefully, keeping it secured and away from direct contact with the hot exhaust pipes to prevent the wire insulation from melting .
